The history of The Basin is lost. All written knowledge from before a great unknown cataclysm has been destroyed, and any member of a race old enough to have been alive to see it suffers from an unnatural brainfog that prevents them from remembering anything of it.
The world is recovering, but the ancient ways have been lost. Magic is weak, knowledge is highly limited, and any magitechnology or tomes of knowledge that survived the cataclysm are coveted as the highest form of relic imaginable, and are studied by the scholars of Lamphold.
The world is mostly mundane, fiercely superstitious, and xenophobia is high. People are suspicious of elves, wary of dwarves, and anything stranger is feared.
